Carnival Valor

Carnival Valor is the third of the five Conquest class ships, built by Fincantieri at Monfalcone and christened in December 2004: 110,000 gross tons, 1,492 cabins and about 2,970 guests at double occupancy. The one design decision that still governs her is Joe Farcus's choice to hang every public room off a single idea, heroism, so you pass from the Ivanhoe Theater to the Eagles Lounge, the One Small Step disco, Rosie's Lido buffet and the Argonaut and Prometheus pools. It is coherent rather than restrained, and busier than anything Carnival builds now. In August 2026 she is based year round in New Orleans on four and five night Western Caribbean runs to Cozumel and Progreso, with a 14 night Carnival Journeys sailing on 29 November, and she moves to Mobile for six to eight day Bahamas cruises from 15 May 2027.
Her 2025 drydock at Navantia in Cadiz did more than freshen carpets: WaterWorks and its twin slides, an enlarged casino, a Camp Ocean with a fleet first LED wall, and the Heroes Tribute Bar and Lounge on deck 5. The free food remains her strongest argument, Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina by the Argonaut pool and a two level Rosie's that handles a crowd well, and the paid venues are few: Scarlett's Steakhouse, the Alchemy Bar, the RedFrog Pub.
Cruise Critic's published review scores her four out of five and flags a children's club oddly sited by the spa and Serenity, an unreliable app and patchy Wi-Fi, and a thin sea day roster. The hull is 22 years old and shows it in ways no refit fixes: one usable mains socket in most cabins, no shower shelving, standard balconies of about 35 square feet.
She suits families and groups on a short break, drive market passengers from the Gulf, and anyone chasing a low fare. Carnival's pricing sits below Royal Caribbean's and the crowd differs accordingly: younger, louder, more first timers. If you want newer hardware or quieter rooms, an Oasis or Quantum class ship is the fair comparison, and you will pay for it.
Cabin choice matters more here than the brochure implies. Deck 8 Verandah cabins aft and midship sit directly beneath the deck 9 Lido: the Argonaut pool amidships, the Prometheus pool and its retractable roof aft, and chair scraping from early morning. Deck 6 forward and midship sits over the deck 5 promenade, so the disco, Eagles Lounge and RedFrog Pub are the neighbours. The aft extended balcony cabins on decks 6, 7 and 8 give about 60 square feet of balcony for a modest premium and are the best structural value aboard, at the cost of soot and a long walk forward. Category 4J is an inside cabin with an obstructed picture window: treat it as an inside with daylight. Deck 10 Panorama cabins are handy for the buffet and slides and pay in footfall overhead.
