Celebrity Equinox

Celebrity Equinox is the second ship of Celebrity Cruises' Solstice class, built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany, and delivered in 2009 at a cost of around US$750 million. A near-identical sister to lead ship Celebrity Solstice, she carried forward the class's roughly 122,000-GT dimensions and its design-forward approach to the premium market, with capacity for about 2,850 guests.

Equinox features the signature Lawn Club, the half-acre of real grass on the top deck that became the emblem of the Solstice class, along with a Canyon Ranch-affiliated spa and an unusually high proportion of balcony staterooms. She was later modernized under the fleetwide Celebrity Revolution program, a multi-year, multi-hundred-million-dollar initiative that refreshed staterooms, restaurants, and public spaces across the line to bring the older ships closer to the standard set by the Edge class.

Her godmother is Nina Barough, the founder of the breast-cancer charity Walk the Walk, a choice that reflected the line's practice of naming prominent women with philanthropic profiles to christen its ships.

Celebrity Equinox sails a varied seasonal calendar that has included Mediterranean summers homeporting at Barcelona, Caribbean winters from Florida, and South America itineraries. Registered at Valletta, Malta, and carrying the call sign 9HXD9, she remains in active service with Celebrity Cruises as one of five Solstice-class ships that anchored the fleet for a generation.
