Grandeur of the Seas belongs to Royal Caribbean's Vision class but represents its second, larger sub-group, entering service in 1996 at about 73,817 GT. She was built by Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki, Finland, one of the Vision ships constructed at the Finnish yard rather than in France, and she carried the class's hallmark emphasis on light-filled interiors, with a soaring glass-topped Centrum atrium and generous use of windows throughout her public spaces.
Among her signature features were the funnel-wrapped Viking Crown Lounge and the Solarium, a glass-enclosed adults-oriented pool retreat that let guests enjoy the sun in comfort regardless of weather. Designed for roughly 2,400 guests, Grandeur balanced the intimacy of a mid-sized ship with a full complement of dining, entertainment, and recreation venues. Aviva Ofer served as her godmother.
Grandeur of the Seas has enjoyed a long and stable Royal Caribbean career, and following a 2012 refit that added contemporary dining and digital enhancements, she remained a popular choice for East Coast and Caribbean cruising. In May 2013 she suffered a mooring-line fire while docked in the Bahamas that damaged her exterior decks, but she was repaired and returned to service within weeks.
Grandeur of the Seas remains in active service with Royal Caribbean International, registered in Nassau, Bahamas. She continues to sail Caribbean itineraries and is scheduled to homeport at Tampa, Florida, for the 2025-2026 winter season, one of the enduring mid-sized ships that keep Royal Caribbean's Vision generation sailing into its fourth decade.
