Majestic Princess

Majestic Princess is the third ship of Princess Cruises' Royal class and the first of that class purpose-built for the Chinese cruise market. She was ordered from Fincantieri on 30 July 2014 and constructed at the Monfalcone yard as yard number 6232. Her keel was laid on 10 July 2015, she was floated out on 8 February 2016, and after sea trials she was delivered to Princess on 30 March 2017. Although she shares the Royal-class hull and layout with Royal Princess and Regal Princess, she was extensively adapted for Chinese guests, with bilingual signage and announcements and dedicated amenities including a Cantonese restaurant, a tea bar, karaoke rooms and a VIP casino; her Chinese name rendered a sense of a golden or grand age.

She measures 143,700 gross tons, slightly larger than her two earlier sisters, and retains the class dimensions of 330 metres in length, a maximum beam of 47.2 metres and an 8.5-metre draught over 19 decks with 16 open to guests. She carries 3,560 passengers at double occupancy and up to 4,272 at maximum, with a crew of about 1,346 and 1,780 staterooms, the great majority with balconies. Flying the Bermuda flag from Hamilton, she carries IMO number 9614141 and the call sign MABI4.

Majestic Princess offers the established Royal-class venues, including the enlarged multi-storey Piazza atrium, the cantilevered over-water SeaWalk glass walkway with its companion SeaView bar, the adults-only Sanctuary, Princess Live, and specialty restaurants, alongside her China-specific dining and entertainment. She was among the ships equipped for Princess's MedallionClass platform, using the wearable Medallion device for touchless stateroom access, onboard payments, wayfinding and personalised services.

Her propulsion follows the class pattern: a diesel-electric arrangement with four Wärtsilä generating sets totalling about 62,400 kW feeding two electric motors of roughly 18 MW each, giving a service speed near 22 knots and a maximum of about 23 knots.

Majestic Princess undertook an introductory Mediterranean programme, sailing her maiden voyage as a five-day Adriatic cruise from Rome on 4 April 2017, before repositioning to Shanghai for year-round service in the Chinese market. She was formally christened at Shanghai on 9 July 2017 with the retired NBA star Yao Ming and his wife Ye Li serving as godparents. As the Chinese-market model wound down she was redeployed internationally, sailing seasons that included Australia and New Zealand, the US West Coast and Alaska from Seattle, whose Alaska run concluded in September 2024. In November 2022 she drew wide attention when a large COVID-19 outbreak was reported aboard following a New Zealand voyage. She remains in active service and from 2025 was scheduled into new markets, operating Caribbean itineraries from Fort Lauderdale and European voyages from Southampton in the 2025-2026 period.
