Like her sister, the Mein Schiff 2 that entered service in 2019 is a newer ship that inherited a recycled name. The original Mein Schiff 2 was a converted older hull that, together with the first Mein Schiff, was subsequently sold to Marella Cruises, the Royal Caribbean Group's British-market brand, leaving the name free for a new vessel. This second-generation Mein Schiff 2 is the second ship of TUI Cruises' enlarged newbuild class, built by Meyer Turku in Finland at a reported cost of around US$625 million and christened in Lisbon in February 2019.

A near-twin of the 2018 Mein Schiff 1, she measures roughly 111,500 GT and about 315 metres over fifteen decks, carrying around 2,900 guests at double occupancy. She offers the same expanded all-inclusive product, with an extensive range of restaurants and bars, a large spa and wellness area, and the brand's characteristic open, contemporary public spaces, including the stern glass Diamant venue that had by then become a TUI Cruises hallmark.

The ship was named by Carolin Niemczyk, lead singer of the German pop duo Glasperlenspiel, continuing the line's tradition of choosing popular domestic entertainers as godmothers. She is registered in Valletta, Malta, flies the Maltese flag, and carries the call sign 9HA4883.

Mein Schiff 2 has concentrated much of her career on Northern European and North Sea itineraries, working seasonally from Hamburg and Bremerhaven, while also sailing Mediterranean and Caribbean seasons. She remains in active service with TUI Cruises.
