Mein Schiff 5 was the third ship of TUI Cruises' larger purpose-built series, delivered by Meyer Turku in Finland in 2016. She represented a gently evolved version of the design introduced by Mein Schiff 3 and 4, refined for the German-speaking premium market that the TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Group joint venture served, and was built at a reported cost of around US$620 million.

At approximately 99,700 GT and about 295 metres in length, she carries roughly 2,500 guests at double occupancy across her fifteen decks. Her all-inclusive product continued the brand's focus on abundant dining choice, extensive wellness and spa facilities, and light, open public rooms, again crowned by the glass-walled Diamant venue overlooking the ship's wake. Compared with the first pair she incorporated detail improvements to layout and cabins while keeping the family resemblance that defined the class.

The ship was christened by singer Lena Meyer-Landrut, who had won the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany in 2010 and remained a major domestic star, a natural fit as godmother for a ship aimed squarely at German-speaking travellers. Registered in Valletta, Malta, she flies the Maltese flag and carries the call sign 9HA3858.

Mein Schiff 5 has built a career alternating between Mediterranean summers, including seasons working from Heraklion in the eastern Mediterranean, and winter deployments that have taken her as far as the Caribbean. She remains in active service with TUI Cruises.
