Silver Muse

Silver Muse entered service in April 2017 as the lead ship of Silversea's Muse class, built by Fincantieri at Genoa, at 40,791 gross tons, carrying 596 guests against 411 crew. The idea that defines her is the deletion of the main dining room: instead of one seated restaurant, catering is spread across eight venues, a break from convention that sisters Silver Moon and Silver Dawn inherited.

The eight rooms are genuinely distinct: Atlantide, the Southeast Asian Indochine, Spaccanapoli for pizza, La Terrazza, the Japanese Kaiseki, the open deck Hot Rocks grill, Silver Note for supper club plates with live jazz, and La Dame, which carries a surcharge. Dolce Vita on deck 5 is the largest lounge, Arts Cafe on deck 8 the busiest, the Venetian Lounge a modest showroom, and Tor's Observation Library on deck 11 has floor to ceiling forward glass. Butler service comes with every suite, covering unpacking, dining reservations and mini bar setup.

Published criticism is consistent. Cruise Critic's editors award five out of five yet single out the spa and gym as undersized, with four treadmills that draw queues and a thermal suite they judge poor value. Member reviews, 291 of them, split more sharply: 171 rate the ship excellent or very good, 56 poor or terrible. Complaints centre on value, reviewers arguing the fare no longer buys what it once did, alongside dated interiors, weak wifi, thin late entertainment and cold cabins. Fares sit at the top of the market, and inclusions are tiered: beverages and gratuities cover everyone, while wifi and laundry improve as suite grade rises.

She suits travellers who want longer itineraries, quiet rooms and near one crew member per one and a half guests, and who will use eight small restaurants rather than miss one big one. She suits poorly anyone wanting a serious gym, big production shows, late nightlife or facilities for children.

**What this means for choosing a cabin.** On an all suite ship the choice turns on view, outdoor space and position, not category. Entry level Vista Suites on deck 4 are the exception to the all veranda description, with a picture window instead of a balcony; Cruise Critic places them near restaurants and crew areas, noting corridor smoke. The three veranda grades are identical at 387 square feet with a 64 square foot balcony, so the premium buys position alone: Classic forward on decks 5 and 6, Superior forward on 7 to 9, Deluxe amidships on 6 to 8, where motion is least. Silver Suites on decks 9 to 11 roughly double that at 786 square feet, though deck 9 sits below the pool deck and beside the Panorama Lounge, a DJ venue after dinner. Grand Suites on decks 8 and 9 are the outdoor space outlier, pairing about 1,500 square feet inside with verandas of 474 to 570, against 129 for Silver, Royal and Owner's suites.
