Silver Wind

Silver Wind is one of Silversea's two original ships, a vessel whose long career has spanned the entire history of the ultra-luxury line and, in her later years, a complete reinvention as an expedition ship. Built in Italy, with hull work by Cantieri Navali Visentini and fitting-out and completion by T. Mariotti, she was delivered in 1995 as one of the founding vessels that established Silversea's all-suite, small-ship concept. At roughly 17,400 gross tons and carrying only about 274 guests, she embodied the intimate scale and generous space that became the brand's calling card.

For more than two decades Silver Wind sailed as a classic ocean-going luxury cruise ship, ranging across the world's oceans on the leisurely, port-intensive itineraries and world cruises that defined the early Silversea experience. Her suites, nearly all with private verandas and butler service, and her clubby, understated interiors made her a favorite among the line's most loyal guests.

In 2021, Silver Wind underwent a major conversion that ice-strengthened her hull, transforming the veteran ship into an expedition vessel capable of venturing into polar and remote waters. The refit adapted her for landings by Zodiac and expedition-style cruising while preserving the ultra-luxury comforts of her suites, giving her a new lease on life alongside Silversea's purpose-built expedition ships.

Registered in Nassau, Bahamas, Silver Wind now operates luxury expedition voyages to polar and remote regions, with recent deployments including West Africa and the Atlantic. She remains in active service, a founding member of the fleet that has gracefully bridged the gap between classic luxury cruising and modern expedition travel.
